Make the Look

Pop Quiz First!

Quick, tell me which pattern works to make this dress.  I'll give you a hint - envision it without the belt.

Ok, if you chose this summer's ever popular Vogue 1250 by DKNY, you're right!  This  has been a real hit in sewing-blogland and I'm pretty sure you can make it for less money than the $129USD Talbot's is asking for their Drape Neck Dress.

Coincidence that both dresses are red?!?

Now, onto today's *real* make the look.  This is Talbot's Flutter Pleat Tee:

I've got two pattern choices for you, Butterick 5327, View C (the fuchsia one) and Vogue 8731.  The Butterick is the closest in style, although it doesn't have as many pleats - you  might decide you want more and draft some in before cutting out.  The Vogue, while close in style, but not exactly like the original does offer some different style opportunities and might be more flattering depending on your figure type.  The Vogue is more of an inspired by sort of look, rather than an exact copy.

Butterick 5327:

Vogue 8731

Fabric choices for both are easy:  knits!  The Vogue does specify a two way knit, so be sure to check that before purchasing.  There are so many options for these tops for you to make them in your color and pattern choice.

**A special thank you to all who left a kind compliment on my daughter and her new outfit!  I appreciate them!**

Parting Shot:  Tuna!  All my cats love tuna, so I end up having to share with them all.  Wellie happened to get the can today.

I used to feed my cats real tuna also. Hey, they deserve it!

1250 is definitely the go to pattern for the Talbot's dress. The way it hugs what is my least favorable feature keeps me from jumping on the bandwagon. I would really like to see this dress on someone short with some booty.

You won't believe this but my word verification is "mancat". LOL!

Your kitty cracks me up! We tamed our once-feral orange tabby with tuna. Worked like a charm.

I hesitated to purchase that DKNY pattern, just like Bunny. But your "make the look" always inspires me to think again about some patterns...thank you for these posts!

I saw that dress on the Talbots site and thought the same thing! Although there are now about 28 versions of it on PR and I think I like the ones best where they used an awesomely bold print. The prints really take the dress to another level!

I will make that DKNY pattern when the weather warms up a bit and I really like the Vogue tunic top. Haven't really noticed that one before. Good winter tunic for pants and boots.

The patterns and the RTW are so close. Nice dress though.

I made the Vogue dress (as pretty much everybody else's, lol), and I love it. The fabric I used makes it a little formal though, so I don't get to wear it a lot.

Love the pleat detail on the top... I remember also V8738; it also features pleats on the back of the top (but it's a completely different design though)
