Make the Look

Anthropologie Fluid Form Dress

Now that the weather is getting warmer in the Northern Hemisphere, we are starting to look for cooler ways to dress, but still look great.  It seems like the maxi-dress trend is going to hang around for another season or two, so if you're going to buy or make one, this would be the time.  Today's Make the Look is Anthro's Fluid Form Dress.  This dress has a nice shape and easy to wear color, which can be dressed up or down.   It's not too ethnic or hippy-dippy, but rather is long and cool looking.

For a pattern, I'd suggest Simplicity 2642.  It is very similar to the original.  I would use the skirt from View A with the bodice from C, D, or E.

For fabric, you have quite a few choices.  The original is a rayon/spandex knit, but the pattern is for a woven.  This is one of those pattern which you might be able to get away with using a knit.  If you want a solid navy (there's no sense in showing you the navy fabric, they'd all be navy blue boxes on your screen), then Gorgeous Fabrics has quite a few choices in different types of fabrics:  silk georgette, silk crepe de chine, poly matte jersey, blouse weight rayon, Italian rayon matte jersey, and others.  With the exception of the Italian rayon matte jersey, most of these fabrics are in the same price range and would make a great dress.

All photos from respective websites with links included.

Parting Shot:  Books!  My husband and daughter went to Maine for the weekend and stopped at a used book store.  They came home with two big boxes of books at a really good price.  This should keep us reading for a while and Wellie happy with his new boxes.

With the band around the chest, this reminds me of the infinity dress, but with a straight, gathered skirt: http://rowena.typepad.com/rostitchery/infinity-dress.html
