Make The Look

Kate Spade Ikat Caroline Dress

Let's take a break from Anthro for a while and look at a few goodies from Kate Spade.  There always seem to be some nice pieces there and when I saw this dress, I knew there was at least one pattern for it.  From the website, "Ladylike and lovely, in a summery cotton ikat that's equally at home at an impromptu garden party or finding inspiration while wandering the halls of the frick. featuring a figure-flattering gathered bodice with double crossover straps and a full gathered skirt (all the better for dancing under the stars), it's finished with thoughtful details that include delicate piping along the waistband and an invisible side zip."  Nice, and now we have some details.

The first pattern I thought of was Butterick 5029, which is really close in style, with the exception of the double narrow straps, gathered midriff section and back invisible zipper.  Those things could be easily fixed.

The other two patterns that I found that would make a similar look are New Look 6699 and New Look 6776, although the skirts would need a bit of changing if you want to make something closer to the original dress.

For fabrics, one of my favorites is this cotton from Gorgeous Fabrics:

For an interesting monochromatic look, this fabric from EmmaOneSock is nice, too:

Parting Shot:  New Tent.  Our old tent had some manufacturing defects, so after returning it to the company, we ended up with a new tent.  As you'll soon see, Wellie had to investigate.  I heard the familiar noise of him licking something (he loves to lick plastic grocery bags), and sure enough I found him, in the tent, licking the walls of the tent.  Ugh!

I just want to thank you for going to the trouble of figuring out how to "be inspired by" some of the more expensive ready to wear, and sharing with us all. I love your blog. Thanks.

I love all your posts as well AND appreciate your taking the time. FYI my 14 year old always likes to see what Wellie is up to (NOT interested in the dresses) so I call him over whichs always results in a big smile. Thanks.

That dress is a great one to knock off. I feel much better about one of my lunatic cats that also has an obsession with licking plastic bags too. Doubt she will get to try a tent but I'm sure she would love it too!

That cat is NOT right, as we say in the South.

I really love this dress. It is so very feminine.

Your cat is weir....eccentric.

That vinyl must just feel good!

There is something so sweet sexy and appealing about polka dots. Great dress with that fabric.

My cats lick plastic bags too. It's so gross. I always wonder if they are made with fish or something they way they can't resist them.

What is with cats & plastic? One of my idiot cats goes nuts if there's any plastic available for him to lick or chew on.

My cat loves to chew plastic bags. I once discovered Miss Kitty in my bathroom chewing on my shower curtain liner. I had teeth marks on my shower curtain.

Not only does my cat lick plastic bags the owner of the pet store on the corner has to leave plastic bags out for the store cats so customers don't get damp bags. He says that they use cornstarch for a release agent and that is what the cats are after. I have no idea about tents though.

best Wellie picture EVER! Our cats are afraid of plastic bags (they don't come from a good home....) unless it's the food bag :) but they do love cardboard boxes. No matter what size, they have to try to fit in there :)

This cracks me up! No matter what we do, we cannot get our dog to stop licking. Never had a cat that did it though! And of course, we all know, orange kitties are the best ;-)

Missy likes the paper bags best; she attacks them, hides inside, runs with the bag on top of her head... It's really fun to watch!
