A Fun Weekend Project, Amongst Other Things

Thank you for the compliments on my new striped top!  It was easy to put together and I often see garments online and *know* I've seen a pattern that is very close to the garment or could be modified easily.  So, readers, would you like to see more of that sort of post?  Sort of a "Make the Look" type of post, with pattern suggestions and fabrics sources?  I already know which pattern would make this new-for-spring skirt and where to find similar fabric!

For this weekend, I've got a few projects lined up.  Noticing that I already had white thread in the serger from working on a dance costume for client, I'm thinking of making another refashioned gym shirt.  This is another of my husband's t-shirts that I'll be able to refashion;  I think this will be a RTW inspired one, too.

The other project will be a new library bag for my bookworm daughter.  After watching her struggle to carry about a dozen books out of the library and around a snowbank, I thought it would be a good idea to make her a nice sturdy bag for the books.  She chose these home dec fabrics from JA's; she loved the elephants!

I'll be using Vogue 8439, with a few modifications as specified by my daughter.

The fabric is in the dryer, so I should be able to get this cut out tomorrow.  That is, after I enlist my daughter to get the pattern pieces cut out of the tissue!

Parting Shot:  Birthday Cake.  We'll be celebrating my son's birthday tomorrow, even though it was earlier this week.  He chose to have chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and peanut butter cups on it.  There are even peanut butter cups in the filling between the two cake layers.

I would love to see a "make the look" series! Love that Talbots skirt, but I would make modifications for my figure.

I'd enjoy a "create the look" series, too. I really liked your finished shirt from yesterday's post. I also love the fabric your daughter picked for her bag - the elephants are just adorable!

It sounds like a fun weekend. Yes, I'd love to see more posts on "Make the Look".

Love the fabrics for the tote bag!

I also would love some "make the look" entries. I also like the items where you give a piece of clothing a new life, like the baggy T-shirts into cute workout tops.

That's going to be a cute bag for your daughter. I use a tote purchased from the bookstore, but I need to make some modifications for it to really work well - pockets, shorten the straps, etc.

Late Happy Birthday wishes to your son. Mmmmmm peanut butter cups!!!! He has excellent taste.
