3 Studios Quilt Challenge 2010 - Music
Inspiration and Getting Started
The challenge word for Sept./Oct. is music. That's a very good word as it has a different personal meaning for everyone. While I like music and can sing and play an instrument, I do not have music playing all the time. I prefer to work in the quiet in my studio. I'm not sure why that is. At any rate, when I saw the challenge word, I instantly thought of birds and the way God created them to make music. I pulled out some of my older drawings of birds and knew what I was going to do.
To get started, I dye painted a white piece of fabric shades of yellow and green for the background. I then lightly traced the outlines onto the fabric and started coloring everything in with Prismacolor pencils. If you recognize these birds, I'm not surprised; you've seen them before in Bluebird of Happiness. I've just decided to make a little scene with them this time.
You can see the progression of the piece in the photos below.
Next Friday, I'll show you the next step: the quilting. I'm still working on that today, and the quilting part will all be finished by next Friday. I'll then be able to start the embellishments and show you the final piece during the reveal week, the last week of October.
Parting Shot: One Done. I got one of my new socks done last night. The pattern is stretchy and looks so much better when worn than when flat. The picture is a bit overexposed, but these are navy socks and you'd never see the pattern if the picture weren't so light.

Oh, I love your Music piece! I can't wait to see the quilting because I know you will do something special.
Such a pretty vignette of nesting bluebirds.
And loooovely sock(s).
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
I love your piece! Where do the "challenges" come from? Do you have a local ASG chapter or something of that sort which decides and issue the challenges?
