A Quick Dress - Simplicity 3775
Thank you all for the lovely compliments on my latest vintage blouse! I am glad that I was able to do such a fine fabric gift a justice. This one is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Not all the blouses have been instant winners, but I do have favorites!
Now that the weather is getting cooler, I've started to look at the children's wardrobes and see what is needed to fill in the gaps from things outgrown or outworn. My daughter needed one dress for church for this fall and winter. I bought a fairly nice knit from Jo-ann's several months ago and put it away in the closet for this fall. After asking her, she wanted another Simplicity 3775, this time with round neck and full sleeves. BTW, this is the third time I've made this pattern this fall, it's practically a TNT! (See, I do have TNT's; they're for my daughter!)
I cut out the dress Sunday afternoon. When I was done, I went to my computer and there was a post from Kristine, who made up the same pattern in a different knit print! Take a look at hers - she look fabulous in it! I totally agree on her assessment of this pattern: effortless! It is a very easy pattern with no zippers or buttons at all. I could easily make the dress in a day.
Between the serger and coverstitch machine, this dress was really easy and has a great finish, as seen in the hem below:
This dress is also effortless in that it is easy to wear and easy to accessorize, too. Just pop it on, find some cute shoes and jewelry and go!
Next up: Purple velour and Burda. Should be fun.
Parting Shot: Cat vs. Coverstitch Machine. I'll let you figure out who lost and was promptly launched from the sewing table.

Beautiful dress! You know, I bought that pattern after you made it for your daughter. It's been sitting on my cutting table for a couple of months - I really need to get to it. Don't you love it when your kids ask you to make something that's so quick?
What is it with cats and overlocks/coverstitch machines? I'm so thankful that mine express less and less interest in them as they are getting older!
You and Cenetta are partners in encouraging those of us who haven't sewn knits much since the '70s to go for it! This dress is adorable, and the RTW knits I bought like it this summer travel well, too. I will be picking up some fabric on clearance soon. Thanks!
It beautiful. Gives me hope that maybe I could even sew one of these up.

Very cute dress for your daughter, and I am definitely intrigued by the purple velour!
oh my on the cat!!! I just had the same thing happen, but I didn't catch him. Be careful thread can be deadly to the cats because it gets tangled in the intestine and around their tongue. The cat was fixed in my house, but $700 later. It was a chunk of emotion and $.
I love your ITY, so cheerful! I wore mine to work yesterday and garnered many compliments, so I'm sure you're daughter will too!
Don't take this the wrong way, but... Wellington makes me glad to be allergic to cats. My kids know not to touch my machines, so a cat would be in big trouble!
This is a beautiful dress. The fabric and color are gorgeous. Never see that at my Joanns!!!I bet your darling looks darling in it. Each dress lately looks a little more grown up(sigh).
I hope that when the final vintage blouse is finished, you will have a post that shows them all together.
Wellie makes me laugh... especially since it's not my cat nor machine!
Launched? lol!
Lovely print. Simple but gorgeous dress. Lucky daughter to have her own in house couturier.
What is on your list for your kids as far as wardrobes? You said your daughter needed one more dress, how many do you like for her to have? I struggle with figuring out what a good amount of clothing for the kids would be. I do have boys so for church it is super simple since they wear suits, just find a different tie each week and we are good to go!lol I do however struggle with how many clothes for the rest of the week. I would love to see your "list". Thanks once again for your wonderful blog

Love that Wellie! My cat does something similar, not so much with the serger, but with my regular machine. She sticks her head through the opening as I'm sewing to say hi, or she will try to catch the screw that holds the needle in....she also gets "launched" but only because I'm worried she might hurt herself. Everything else in the sewing room belongs to her...every piece of fabric, every piece of pattern tissue, scissors need to be played with until they get pushed off the table to the floor as well as every other sewing notion. But I do love her to pieces! She did not get her name "Princess Sassy" (just plain Sassy most days!)
Very pretty dress. I love the print.
Beautiful dress! I've used this patter a couple of times as well, and you inspire me to go make a third version.
Just gorgeus! I see why you have used this pattern for many times, it works and all you need is some beautiful fabric to make it unique!
