The Great Vintage Shirt Project - McCall's 2207

Done!

I was able to quickly finish the shirt this weekend, so here it is:

As you can see, I can wear it with teal, brown or red cardigans or a brown jacket:

There is an additional button with a thread loop at the neck, in case I want to wear it buttoned up:

I am very pleased with this blouse - the fabric is beautiful and was a dream to sew, the style is classic and I can wear it many ways this fall and winter!

Q/A:  From Kelley:  "What thoughts do you ponder when selecting a topstitch thread color, including this shirt?"

Since topstitching is a decorative as well as functional element in sewing, it is wise to consider thread color!  The first thing I consider is whether I want to the topstitching to stand out or not.  That depends upon the intended use of the garment.  If it is a classic style that I want to wear a lot with many different outfits, then I'm going with matching thread.  A high contrast thread, let's say red topstitching on a white blouse, while very decorative, may limit the items you wear the blouse with depending on your style aesthetic.  Some people don't care if the topstitching matches or coordinates with the rest of their outfit choices, some people do care.  It would bother me.  A lot.  It is hard to get out of the 50's and 80's matchy-matchy mindset!   A high contrast topstitch color may also not be a wise choice is your topstitching isn't nice and straight or your machine tension is off.  For the current fabric in question, I did not want the topstitching to stand out a lot.  I could have topstitched in red, teal, or dark brown.  I chose the medium tan color because it is very neutral, will blend in fairly well and I knew my buttons were a similar color.

Parting Shot:  Socks.  I finished up this pair of socks for my daughter this weekend.  The colors pooled in an unusual way on one sock, but not on the other.  Oh well, that's how working with hand dyed yarn can be!  My daughter likes them, so that's fine with me!

Did You get bang for your buck with this month's GVSP, or what? It's adorable and you are, too, in it. You're right: the fabric was an excellent choice!

I am so very pleased to see that the fabric worked so well.I think you found the perfect pattern for it and the result, because of your skill is stunning. And Gorgeous Ann is right - it looks even better on you thatn on the form! And I am delighted that the fabric matches so well with what you will wear with it.
We have so many happy memories of our visit to you and hope we can meet up again one day.

Summerset, that is just beautiful! I bet the fabric is soft as silk too. Your socks put my remedial knitting skills to shame.
