Birthday Dress #12
Plus the Start of a Quick Birthday Present
Here she is, almost 12:
My favorite picture of the day:
She's really happy with the whole outfit and that makes me happy!
For a quick birthday present, and because she needs them, I've started a pair of pajamas. I'm using different patterns for the top and bottoms. The bottoms are a generic Big 4 (I'll show it tomorrow), but I made them more quickly than the pattern by combining the two pattern pieces at the side seam and making a "one seam" pant. This also allowed me to cut the pattern crosswise, taking advantage of both the print and having the raw edge of the hem on the selvedge, making the finishing quicker. I'll show you the finished pair and the top (a Burda) which is almost done, tomorrow.
Parting Shot: Zucotto. The children get to pick out whatever they want for a birthday cake or dessert. My daughter this year wanted a desert from an old Martha Stewart magazine, a Zucotto. What you see below is a bowl lined with homemade sponge cake pieces and filled with whipped cream that includes fresh raspberries, toasted hazelnuts and Heath bar pieces and topped with another layer of sponge cake. So far, it is all done, except for inverting the whole thing and then glazing with a chocolate ganache which will happen tomorrow morning.
