The Holy Grail - Part Ten
I Think I'm Pretty Close!
I finally finished the jeans yesterday. I wanted to get them finished because I was going to be busy all afternoon with some guests and I wanted to wear the jeans. My son though they looked pretty good. In the grocery store he told me they looked as good as store bought. It's not much coming from a nine year old boy, but I'll take it. You'll have to excuse the wrinkles - I'd worn the jeans quite a few hours before getting around to taking pictures. That and wrinkles seem magnified in photos. Really, they do look better in real life!
I made regular sized back pockets, spacing the same as on my other jeans. I can see that I still might need to deal with those back legs wrinkles - not much but I'll check that in the fall. That might change depending on how my legs develop over the next couple of months. Due to the weather, I'm back to hiking and biking more than during the winter.
I made belt loops, even though I'll never use them, because they complete the looks of jeans, as you can see from the above photo. The side photo isn't too bad and show that the back legs wrinkles aren't as bad as they seem; you can also see that the waistband is level or nearly level like it should be. That was a result of raising the back and lowering the front.
I'm really, really pleased with this pair, even though it took quite some time to finish them. I've transferred all the changes to my pattern, so I'll be making more pairs in the fall in corduroy. Just for fun and reference, here is a shot with my daughter who will be entering seventh grade in the fall. She is only one size smaller than me in RTW (sometimes the same size, depending on style). She also seems to have my genetics when it comes to the lower half. At least I now know a lot of alterations to try if I make her trousers!
Tommorw: This month's Great Vintage Shirt Project!
Parting Shot: Garden. The garden has been planted this week. Now all we need to do is wait to see how well it will grow this year. Last year we had a lot of rain, which drowned our plants and seeds and shortened the growing season. So far this year, the plants seem to have a better start.

Wow on the jeans, a lot of work, but they look great. I admire your tenacity, I am not advanced at sewing like some of you bloggers and would have given up long ago. I may be persuaded to give it a shot.
Wow, you are close to the Holy Grail of jeans, aren't you? They look fabulous on you, much better than RTW IMHO.
I mostly sew dresses, blouses, and skirts because they're easy to fit; my occasional attempts at slacks over the years have NOT been pretty! Reading your posts on this thread, though, has shown me how to get better results. The main work happens before cutting the fashion fabric, which only every sewing guide repeats over and over, but is easy to forget in the excitement of the moment.
Great, I love the white jeans. ohhhh yes, your daughter is a little woman, very beautiful. Do not forget me, good luck to the gardener, I'm sure there will be a good harvest
Fantastic jeans! Thanks for sharing your holy grail journey.
I also like seeing you with your daughter. Last week, I was just noticing that my 9 yo daughter's waist/hip ratio resembles mine.
Perfect jeans! They look awesome.
I think they look fabulous!
Thanks for showing all the different alterations you've had to do or think about doing. The jeans look great, Summerset.
Wow! The jeans look great! You look great!
I was the same size as my mother when I was around 15 except I was six inches shorter. It was fun to share clothes and earrings with her. We both liked blazers.
I love the turquoise and white combo you're rocking too!
I love your jeans. They turned out great. Hard to believe your daughter is almost as big as you.
Thanks so much for your sweet comment about our family photo on my sewing blog.
Nice photo of you and your daughter :) The work on those jeans paid off - they look great.
You have found the Holy Grail! I am amazed by your patience and the results are fantastic.
I'm in agreement with your son. They are great pair of jeans.
Bravo! Your jeans look fabulous.
Gosh, your daughter is shooting right up there. She is getting cuter by the day! Do you both wear the same size shoe yet? That's a real special day!
That's great pair of jeans! You probably need only a little more tweaking, but you can do that as you make successive pairs. For now, relax and enjoy these and your lovely children
Nice job! You have so much patience to do the alterations that need to be done. I wish I had that...I need to try harder. I'll be interested to hear how they "wear" and if they continue to be comfortable as they get continued use.
The white jeans look WONDERFUL and have certainly paid off all the effort invested in them!
