Up Next . . .

Simplicity 2444

Thank you for all the compliments on my family!  They certainly are a blessing and fun, too!

My daughter has outgrown some of her church dresses from last year, so I'm making one new one.  Between last year's dresses, the Easter dress and this one, she'll be ready for Sundays.

We bought the fabric first for this one, on clearance at Jo-ann's.  It is a nice printed cotton, easy to work with and a good weight for a summer dress.  She originally wanted a shirt dress, but after looking at the pattern catalogs, she chose the Simplicity Project Runway pattern shown below because it has some vintage style elements that she liked.  She is now big enough to wear adult patterns, so her options for patterns are now greatly expanded.

She's already marked which details she wants: the cape collar, short sleeves and the waist tie.  Because of everything she wanted, I did have to be creative with pattern layout when cutting it out as I was a little short on fabric.  Due to this, I had to seam the center front rather than placing it on a fold.  This isn't a major problem and it looks fine with the skirt since it has a center front seam, too.  Between the collar, front waist bow and fabric pattern, it won't be all that noticeable!

So far, the dress is easy to put together - just darts and a pleated skirt.  The pleats are much easier than gathering yards and yards of fabric onto a tiny bodice!

I should have this one done by the end of the week!

Parting Shot: Happy Kitty?  Not sure, but I know Wellie was swishing his tail even though he was laying very still.

What a pretty cotton print. I hope we get to see a picture of your daughter wearing the dress when it's done.

Love that Wellie. :)
