Vintage Simplicity 2337 - Trousers
I Think I Got It . . .
Maybe I'll be able to actually sew some trousers this week! Thank you all for the suggestions, I do believe there is something asymmetrical going on with my body. I've got one shoulder lower than the other, too, so I'm not surprised. I do know I've got a larger saddlebag on the one side - the right side - than the other. That may account for the odd fit and needing a little extra room right at the top of the thigh at the side back. The fit through the abdomen and area between the waist and saddlebag is fine - not tight or straining. For right now, I'm going to make a note in my fit books as to this problem and see if it crops up in skirts and future trousers. Now that I think about it - I have had to curve each side differently when fitting in the past - I can't just do the exact same change to each side seam.
Now, for today's tweak - which I think is the last because it seems to have fixed the last bit of wrinkles on both sides for the most part, even the larger thigh side. I have felt all along that there is a bit too much fabric in the back of the trouser leg. Although these have a full leg, I think there is a thing such as too wide for the more tailored style. Starting around the same level where the back crotch curves under, I've made a very long dart all down the back of the pant leg to the hem, removing 3/4" of fabric. It seems I need the space in the seat, but not in the center of the leg. Here's what I have now:
I think this is the best I'm going to do with this pattern, but I'm really happy with the way they are now. I will trace off this pattern and probably use it to make other trousers with style modifications now that I have a good fit. Maybe tomorrow I'll cut into the houndstooth. I'm glad I waited, though!
Parting Shot: Want Felt? Seriously. My friend who is cleaning out a lot of her fiber stuff gave me some felt, which I don't use. Some of this is acrylic, but I believe that a good part of it is wool felt, too. If you want the felt and live in the United States - and you must take all of it - please email me. All I ask is that you pay the shipping for it.
Someone has claimed the felt! It will be going to a charity - thank you!
