Barcelona Beauty - Part 7

A Finished Skirt!

I've finished the skirt, and I'm very pleased with the fit and the details!

Here are just a few more construction notes and details:

The zipper of the skirt goes all the way to the top of the waist band. This means that the lining and skirt and not joined to the waistband after the zipper is installed. The waistband was attached to the skirt, the zipper inserted, then the lining was stitched to the other long edge of the waistband. The waistband was folded down in the place and the inside edges along the zipper were finished. In the photo below, you can see the skirt on the left, the waistband in the middle and the lining on the right.

I finished the skirt and lining hems separately, but joined them at the side seams with French tacks. (I've also heard these called swing tacks.) This keeps the two pieces together so that the lining does not ride up or bunch up around the hips.

I ended up not doing the back vent, I tried the muslin on and did not need the extra space to walk. This, of course, helped the finishing process not be so long!

Now, on to the jacket. I need to finish the cottontail dress, either today or tomorrow and then I plan to work on the jacket for the rest of the week and through Sunday. It should be finished sometime next week.

Parting Shot: Not for Me. This is for Ann, and I'll be taking it down to her tomorrow and visiting her fabulous studio in Mass. Should be fun and maybe I'll get to see her new dress form if it is at the studio!

Very nice. I like it with the back pockets. I have made the skirt twice but didn't put the pockets in. Maybe I need a third!
