Sleeve Insertion and Some Inside Finishing
Now that the borders are on the coat, the sleeves need to be attached and finished on the inside. Since all the hem edges are already finished, all the of rest of the construction is at the top of the coat at the sleeves and collar.
To start this process, I stitched the outer sleeves into the armholes of the outer coat. Since the coat has raglan sleeves, this was very easy! No sleeves to set into the armholes, making this a much easier process. (BTW, if you're looking for a good tutorial on how to set in sleeves, Ann did one recently which was excellent.)
Once the outer sleeves were inserted, I matched the lining of body of the coat to the armhole seam and stitched that in place on the same stitching line as the sleeves were inserted. This helps to keep the lining in place without sagging or bagging - very important in this coat due to the border construction. Since the lining and coat would normally only been attached at the neckline, anchoring the lining around the armholes helps to keep everything in place. In the photo below, you can see the body lining pinned in place before stitching it to the armhole seam allowance.
The seam allowances on the lining sleeves were then stay stitched, clipped as needed and turned under. After the sleeves were pinned in place around the lining armhole, I then fell stitched the sleeve linings in place to complete the lining around the armholes. Sorry this photo is a bit blurry, this was one of the first close-ups I tried with the new camera. Since then I've figured out how to take better close-ups.
Here is the inside of the coat, with the lining complete, except for the collar. There will be more decoration and a label added to the lining, but for right now it is ready for the collar.
Stay tuned for a post with pictures of the mock-ups for the collar and the final decision regarding the collar.Parting Shot: Computer Family. You know you live with a computer geek when there are more computers in your house than family members and pets combined. These three are being retired and will move off to other uses or a computer graveyard eventually. Their old tasks were eliminated or given to another computer to do.

The lining is looking good! And you don't need to be computer geek family to have that many computers (well maybe). We have 4 for 3 of us. One for each of us and one for the cat..lol. Nothing worse than having to wait your turn to get onto the computer :)
Hey, hey, HEY NOW! My computers are funding your addiction, you know!
I have really enjoyed this coat creation! Both daughter and I received dress forms from Santa...maybe it will translate into more clothes construction!
I am having a 100 post giveaway starting Sunday...come by and see!
I was going to just say that BOH is looking good, but I got distracted and started counting computers, pets, and family members. I'm stunned by the count: 7 living creatures, 6 known computers and one "maybe." We really need to clean the shed.
In our defense, we're all geeks. Every one of us can write HTML at the very least! Um, the 4 people that is.
How satisfying to see the coat all come together. You're almost done!
I live with geeks too...my basement is full of that stuff, too much to count. But whenever any of the guys needs a weird cable or odd soundcard, etc....they know exactly where to look! Kind of like us and our beads and buttons....
I think sewing divas and geeks must be magnetically attracted to one another. 13 WORKING computers (8 are hard working servers in the basement) and we are an empty nest household of two!
I am enjoying watching this coat being constructed and I am really looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Our count - 4 people = 4 computers!
Perfect! I can't wait to see what you decido to do with the collar!
Looks beautiful!
Can't wait to see the finished coat:)
You're (still) teasing us!!
j/k, but I can't wait to see the finished coat
I'm the computer geek + the one sewing in our family. That's 2 computers for me, 3 for other family members, and 2 old ones (taking up space, must clean up).
Quite a lot for a family of 4.
Sewing divas and computer geeks must go hand in hand! I read all the other posts and laugh at how many divas are married to geeks! I love love love that I am married to a geek because I get all the high tech cool stuff but I am NOT a geek myself! I would be lost with out my "stuff"! I don't know how many computers we have, I do know we have four that are plugged in and being used, I think we have at least four that he is "working" on. I really don't know. We have five humans (one being a baby), cat and dog. Fun stuff!!!
