Calling All Fabriholics!

I'd like to follow up on the post earlier this week regarding online fabric shopping. I gave some suggestions and some of you contributed some good ones, too. A few things jumped out at me from the comments:
  • know your fabrics - educate yourself through reading and feeling
  • purchase fabrics from those who sell quality fabrics and have excellent customer service
  • cheap fabrics may or may not be a real bargain; they may be inferior in quality
Those are definitely great things to keep in mind. Some of you also gave suggestions as to where to buy good quality fabrics. Here they are:
I'd like to add the Silk Baron to the list. He has an impression selection of dupionni silk and has been adding chiffons, satins, velvets and other types over the last year. I buy all my dupionni from him for my art garments and Isabelle bought the silk for her wedding dress from him.

So, where are your favorite places to shop for fabric online besides those listed above? Let me know in the comments!

Parting Shot: Sailor Outfits, 1970. How about this for nautical style? I showed some of these to my mother in-law the other night and she said she used to wear outfits like these. She said remembers wearing the little tops, the trousers and the mini dresses in the 70's!

I remember that pattern! My first "from a pattern" 4H project was a sailor top and straight skirt in a lavender-blue and white windowpane check with solid skirt. Not from that pattern, but quite similar.

For your fabric store consideration: Manhattan Fabrics for sure. They even have fully sponged wool.

Summerset .- already told him in previous post, Fabric Front Line is the only contact I have had to buy fabrics. Its quality fabrics and their service is excellent too. I always buy my city in several stores where there are all kinds of fabrics, from the cheapest to fabrics signed by designers, but no shop is selling online. These are some: Gratacos (embroidered fabrics and fantasy), Cadena, Tessuti Italiani (very good fabrics), Ribes y Casals, Rosell tissues. Well, we have very good offer. Ah ... and we must take advantage of their good deals and discounts. I hope it has served as something this information. Greetings and see you soon. Paco

3 favorites - Manhattan Fabrics (manhattanfabrics.com) Thai Silks (thaisilks.com) They seem to have the best prices on silk organza and charmeuse and Trim Fabric (trimfabric.com) Great post! I'm going to update my list with some of your suggestions.

I also have been pleased with trim fabric. I have had good luck with fabric.com. Fashion fabrics club has good prices fabric, but their customer service and shipping time leave a lot to be desired. I have bought a number of good pieces of fabric from Fashion Sewing Group (Nancy Erickson) and have been happy with thai silks as well. Best price on silk organza for underlining and a good variety of undyed silks are at dharmatrading. Another good source for good quality fabric for me has been textile studios.

Saw this pattern mentioned on Liana's blog! I had it, I made the outfit on the far left. As I recall the fabric, it was a very loud seersucker plaid, but I loved it. I made a lot of those pants (back in the 70's I was just a wee skinny thing...those were the days)!

I don't shop online for fabric, as I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with a lot of choices. Notions can be frustrating at times and I don't mind buying those online but fabric is something I need to see up close and personal before purchasing.
