The Tale of a Mouse

I was fully intending to post about the dress for Forget Me Knot, but when I checked my pictures, I didn't have enough to really make a decent post. Since it is out of the house, the pictures and post will have to wait. What I will show you today isn't really about the project, but about the principle behind it.

Earlier this week my son wanted to give catnip to the cats, but I told him it had to be inside of a toy. He then wanted to make a toy for the cats, so we agreed that on Saturday we'd have a sewing date to make a cat toy. We started by figuring out what sort of toy it should be. Once he decided that he wanted to make a mouse, we made a pattern and sewed it up, complete with whiskers and tail. Here's my son cutting out the pattern, before he went to the machine to sew it up:

It is not the best mouse in the world, but he was so excited that he had made something for the cats. You can see that Kiwi couldn't stay away while I was trying to photograph it:

Here he is introducing it to Max. You can see that he's smiling - it is fun to use your talents or resources to give joy to someone else. Even if that someone is just a cat (or three!). Right now, the three cats are fighting over it - must be all the catnip my son stuffed it with!

Now, I must go make some dinner and sit down to do a little hand stitching for a friend.

Parting Shot: Shopping Trip. Last night, my husband and I went out for shopping and dinner in Manchester. He was very nice and took me to Martin's House of Cloth, where I picked up these goodies, below. I bought another eight or so of the Vogue discontinued patterns for 25 cent each. There are two beige pieces of fabric, a crepe and a chiffon, intended for a blouse for my Easter outfit, if I get it done in time. The royal blue fabric is a linen blend of some sort intended for BWOF 3/08 #104, along with white buttons to complete the jacket.

Your son obviously takes great pleasure of making and offering gifts to others! Even cats! His expression says it all!

Summerset .- her son is a good apprentice sewing and also very complacent with the cat ....!!! One question on the 2776 Vogue pattern: it vies to cut this skirt?. Thanks and regards. Paco

How wonderful... both that your son is so enjoying his sewing and that he made such a great toy for the cats!
And how gratifying that it was such a hit!
