The Report From the Show Floor

The International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX opened today. Here's a photo that VickiW sent me from the show of American Beauty:

As you can see, I got an Honorable Mention. I am thrilled and satisfied with the placing. I certainly wished to place higher, but this is the first time I've felt that I've had work worthy to even enter into the IQF. Since this is the first time I've had an entry in this particular show, I am very pleased with how things turned out. Maybe next year I'll place higher! (For the complete list of winners, click here; scroll all the way down to the bottom, where you'll see the garments!)

I'd just like to say hello and thank you to all of you who have commented for the first time recently! I'm glad you're enjoying all the odd things I find interesting enough to share. Don't be shy and comment again when the mood strikes.

Parting Shot: Midnight Garden appliqué. I thought you'd like a sneak peek at how the applique is coming along. The pale blue flower at far right is just pinned on in this photo, but I got it stitched down on the bus this morning.

Your American Beauty is truly beautiful. Congratulations! Honorable Mention is not bad for a first time entry as the competition is very stiff. Thanks for posting the links to the show and the winners. Also, thank you for taking the time to do the comparisons between Simplicity 1734 and 3673. It's most interesting. I look forward to reading more about your Midnight Garden ensemble.

Congratulations on the prize, Summerset! That exhibition is very prestigious, we hear about it in France as well. Next time you'll do even better!

Love how the flowers are turning out!

Every picture of the AB set is amazing...congratulations on some much-deserved public acclaim!

And I'm lovin' those MG flowers...can't wait to see how the whole ensemble goes together.

I love looking over a Real Artist's shoulder! Thanks for sharing it all!

Congratulations!

Love the flowers. I especially like the navy ones - really nice texture against the quilting.

Congratulations on the Honorable Mention. For a first time entry you could be very proud.

Having seen all of the garments up close I believe, honestly, that your's was by far the most creative and best constructed. But I think that fully quilted garments got the edge in the scoring on this contest.

Congrats on AB! It is sooo beautiful! I have to say it is my favorite of yours so far. You are amazing! Now a question for ya, how do you sew those flowers on? I looked but can not see one little glimpse of a thread. Now don't laugh if I am asking a silly question, I am NOT a hand stitcher and am totally clueless about the stuff! Thanks

And I love the flowers you are quilting and admire your fastidiousness and perseverance. (right words?)

Congratulations! The ensemble is very beautiful I'm glad it got the recognition it deserves.

Sorry to pester with a question cuz I haven't been following the midnight garden project, but is the ribbon silk ribbon? It's lovely, too and I think you've got another winner in the making.
