But first . . .
No question/answer today, just a few comments. Thank you all for the kind words regarding my daughter's skirt. It was a simple thing to make, but made her really happy and I'm glad you like it, too!
Regarding the show in Houston, all of your encouragement really made my day. I've never entered the Houston show before. I didn't have anything that I thought would make it in the show, until now. I am excited, yet apprehensive. I really don't know what to expect or who else will be in the garment division with me. From the paper work they sent me, I know that the jury had to narrow the field from 835 to 409 entries. I'm not sure what portion of that is garments, but I know it's definitely not a large group. I'm just happy I'm actually in the show. If I get any sort of prize, I'll know by the end of September, but won't know placing until the beginning of November.
Alright, enough about that! Check out these photos, courtesy of my regular photo crew. Sorry the first one is blurry; the older member of the crew took this first set. Some of the poses are terrible as my arm obscures the entire side of the dress, but you get the idea!

Close-up of the beadwork, done and on the dress:
The earrings are true 50's/60's vintage, from my husband's aunt, the shoes are from 80's/early 90's - I know exactly when and where I bought them. I have the receipt from the earrings I bought the same day, so that I could match shoes and jewelry to a sequined gown I bought.
Just for fun, this is one my son took:
Well, it's finally done, and what did I learn from this project? - I improved my fitting skills.
- I learned that simple is not a bad thing; less can be more.
- I've also learned not to force an embellishment that just isn't working; something will work out that is more attractive eventually.
Parting Shot: Mr. Mailman is my friend this week. He brought me a new magazine! This one is Fait Main from France, and is a gift from Isabelle. (Who got married on Saturday! Check her blog for a picture of the new couple and the dress she made for the ceremony before it is gone!)

Well what can I say except stunning! It really came together so well....and even though it is not shown in the photos...we know about the secret (blue) jacket lining!
Summerset, you do magic with your sewing ability!!!! Every Art to Wear garment you make causes me to dream with my eyes open! This ensemble is truly spectacular, full with sophistication and glamour! I particularly like the beadwork; I think it's a distinctive detail that connects the dress to its original concept (Diamonds)! Congratulations!!!
You look like a Bond girl!! Wowza, you are so hot in that dress!! Another beautiful creation.
WeeeHoooo, as some say around here, "You're as smart as you are good-looking"! What a knock-out ensemble.
The coat.. the dress... what a cinderella ensemble! Just beautiful!
A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!
Congrats on getting American beauty in Houston. I'll be there this year so will get to see it again!
sigh.
that is just beautiful.
Will you get to wear it for real, or for show? Or both?
I hope both!!!
Summerset ~ did you see my mouth drop open when your page came up...that is one amazing outfit! Even though I watched and read every bit of the construction process seeing the finished garment is just amazing. I just don't see how you can't place with such a wonderful garment! Good luck!!!!
Wow, slinky! It's been great to watch this (and other garments) come together so beautifully. :)
Stunning result, Summerset! So glamorous. I was wondering as well whether you'd be wearing it on special occasions, or whether it's just for show purposes. You do look gorgeous in it and I love what you did with the drape and tie.
You did your hair and make-up just right too for the outfit.
And, phew! that magazine finally arrived. I was wondering whether it had drowned in the Atlantic Ocean enroute! Glad it's there finally. Now for Tany to get hers.
I'll be posting more detailed pictures of the wedding dress soon. :)
Summerset this is stunning! That dress takes my breath away - WOW! Absolutely stunning. Your sewing skills leave me in awe.
You look like you escaped right away from one of the beautiful sophisitcated 50s movies. Absolutely beautiful ! When are you going to wear this ensemble ?
Absolutely beautiful! The beading adds such a nice extra touch. The jacket is to.die.for!
Amazing! You (and the ensemble) look amazing! I only wish I had your patience to follow through with such a large project. It truly is magical.
absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure an occasion will pop up :)
This is such a stunning ensemble - like something straight out of a fairy tale!!
I'm late to the party but wanted to say that this outfit is stunning. I hope you get to model this at one of the art to wear competitions you enter. It will take everybody's breath away. You inspire me to try something like this too. You know, something that is drop dead gorgeous that will force my husband to take me to NYC or someplace like that. Just getting it to fit my body will make me jump for joy!
Hi there~ Just stumbled onto your blog while searching for something else!
Such impressive sewing skills. I can only dream to be that patient and talented.
Love this ensemble. Esp. the jacket. Love the pattern you used, I would've never thought of fur for something like that. Genius.
Best,
Nikki
