HELP!!!!!

I need your help - I'll explain in a minute.

First, Vogue just put up new patterns!!! I really, really like some of these!

This jacket is great - check out the line drawing - it's Vogue 2936

There's lots of other neat stuff, but anyway.

Now, back to my plea for help. I need you to let me know what are your favorite formal/dressy pants patterns. If it's part of a wardrobe, that's okay. Here's the deal. I work at a private, Christian school in New England. Our dress code is that the women teachers/students wear skirts/dresses to class. Not a problem. Except in the winter when it's really, really cold here in New England. Our new, young, hip principal has changed the dress code so that women can now wear pants to class, Dec. 1 through Apr. 1. So, now I need to add some nice dress pants to the old wardrobe rotation. I still will wear dresses and skirts, but add the pants to the mix for the days when it's too cold and I don't feel like the black tights. He wants me to model appropriate pants next Tuesday! I've got plenty of suiting in the stash (who doesn't!), check that, I need, ok would like, some black pinstripe pants. I'm going to make the pants from Vogue 2925, since the other 3 pieces from that wardrobe were a success.

I need some ideas; in my case, of course, the pants will be professional, elegant and of course (for Isabelle) tres chic! The rules from the principal are: no denim, no jeans-styled pants, no super skinny pants, no knit fabric (sweatpants and their kin, the legging) and definitely no pajama pants. Personally, I'm a 5'2" petite in shape (not the round kind of shape!), but with no illusions of looking like the models on the pattern envelopes once I've made the garment. Anything, absolutely anything, that will make me look taller would be nice. I already have the platform high heels!

hmm, what about loes hinse euro pants? i also like la fred thalia pants, and her daphne pant is very nice as well (it's not nearly as skinny as the pattern sketch shows). vogue 2064 is a nice pant too.

I must confess I've only made one pair of pants for me so far, and they're probably a bit too low-rise and unformal for what you want. It was a Burda pattern (from one of their special easy issues).
Anyway, I only have a modest experience, but I do think your Vogue pattern will fit the bill perfectly. The crease is what gives them cachet IMHO, and they're just the right width, too. Seems to me they'll be perfect in black pinstripe suiting!

I also have this Simplicity pattern and I like the fact that the zipper is on the side - it makes for a more flattering figure, doesn't it? (not to mention it's much easier - those pants look like they could be sewn up in a jiffy!) But they're definitely not as chic as your Vogue 2925 pants.

Can't wait to see your first pair, and thanks for the wink ;)

In 1968, Saginaw, Michigan, I was in my early 20's, teaching my 2nd year of high school English when the school board told us that we would be allowed to wear dressy pants and pant suits to work. This was quite a break with traditional dress codes of the time; but only a woman would know the "thrill" of a minus degree wind blowing up her skirt, and the elementary teachers welcomed the additional benifit of modesty. My first sewing project following that announcement was a Vogue tunic and pants outfit. The top had a low turtleneck collar (zipped up the back), semi-fitted long sleeves, and it was almost mid-thigh in length with a slight a-line shape that skimmed the hips beautifully. The pants had a slight flare in the same tiny black and tan textured check. I loved that pattern and wore the outfit nearly to death. I wish I still had the pattern, but it would be easy enough to duplicate. I am 5'2" and the long matching top and bottom in a business-like fabric (I believe it was a heavy cotton blend) made me look stylish and slim (well, I weighed about 120-125 lbs) An updated version of this outfit would be easy to create, would look great, and would be warm.

I LOVE the HP Razor Sharp pants! They are clean across the top and very elegant.

Wow - I've got choices to make now, huh? Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.

Isabelle - I like your pants - the shape might work in a suiting fabric. BTW, Violette is a beautiful little thing!

Patsijean - I can imagine the outfit! I love your experience, especially "the thrill of minus degree wind". LOL.

Maria made a great pair of trousers
( sorry, I really try not to say pants after telling my scottish friend in a mall with a lot of people
"these shoes would look great with my new pink pants" and everyone was staring at me and my friend explained,
that the Brits say pants when they mean their undies....) from an Onion pattern http://www.shoponion.com/images/items/4009_1.gif
I have made great trousers from an KnipModen mag but I guess they are not available in the US so easy.
Another idea would be looking at the Claire Shaeffer patterns by vogue

Tini - At least you didn't say "knickers"! LOL. The varieties of English can be amusing.
